As it relates to astronomy, the earth, and gravitational attraction more specifically, tractive force is .... the main "pulling", or "tide-producing" "force" component, both of and associated with the main and larger forces of gravity emanating in conjunction from both the moon, and sun, .. and directed - i.e. projected and focused, more primarily, where impacting different more specific sub-points on the earth, mainly as a result of the moon's various and different movement and shift, looked at with and set against the earth's both main and constant rotation, together with its own main gravitational output.
The definition above is mine own, in fact derived from a few that I've found, dealing with the idea more general.
